Turnovers are God’s Love & Grace on Display

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us (me!) Ro. 5:8 NKJ

This verse has such a deep personal meaning for me. I do not like talking too much about myself when sharing God’s word or writing devotionals, but I believe this time the Lord is saying, “Glorify Me with your testimony”

I grew up in South East San Diego as a gang member, drug dealer, dope fiend, and a pimp. “BUT GOD!” God stepped in and changed my life into being His son, a husband, father, and minister in His kingdom. I call His intervention a Holy Spirit Turnover.

In the game of football turnovers often occur. A turnover happens when the offensive team looses possession of the ball to the defense either by force or by mistake. A turnover is particularly devastating when the offense is on the verge of scoring then looses possession of the ball and the opposing team capitalizes on the opportunity given to them by scoring.

The eternal destination of our souls was once in Satan’s possession, and he was taking us to hell with him for the big score. “BUT GOD!” sent Jesus, His only begotten Son, to force the ultimate turnover by paying our sin debt in full upon the cross. When we received His sacrifice as a gift of grace, a change of possession took place and our souls came to belong to Jesus, the big score is being in heaven with God for all eternity.

But the grace of God did not end there. Daily in our lives here on earth God is fighting for us because Satan is still trying to destroy us even though he can do nothing about the destination of our soul, why? Because he hates us even more since we belong to Christ. Due to sin there are times when the enemy is ready to score and bring destruction to our lives, “BUT GOD!” steps in and forces a turnover. If we are wise and humble we will capitalize on God’s grace and move forward in repentance and obedience and score the blessing He has for us.

When you share the love of Christ with those who do not know Him, God is using you to force a turnover of salvation into someone’s life, just like He used someone to force that ultimate turnover in yours. Take a moment to think on some of your old ways and remember:

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us (me!) Ro. 5:8 NKJ
